The history of the Stonewall riots

• On June 28th, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in New York City, the LGBTQIAP+ community resisted police violence. Five days of riots followed their fight for liberation.
• That uprising marked a turning point in the community's fight for visibility and equality. 

About the stonewall oral history

In 2019, Racial Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (REIB) created an oral history project that celebrates the 50th anniversary of Stonewall. 

The project explored how the Stonewall riots:

• Shape past, current, and future progress in the Minneapolis transgender and nonbinary community.
  
• Influence key issues on bringing equity to the community, both then and now.

We used the footage in a three-part video series.
