When you buy property

If you buy property that's not exempt from tax, be prepared to pay property taxes. A property's tax status does not change the year you buy it.

  • If you buy in the first half of the year (Jan. 1 - June 30), you will need to pay all the taxes that are due that year.
  • If you buy in the second half of the year (July 1 - Dec. 31), you will need to pay all the taxes that are due that year and the next year.

Submit your application by Feb. 1

If you are approved for an exemption, the exemption will be applied to next year's property taxes.
