Director Intergovernmental Relations

Position highlights

  • Responsible for developing, managing, directing, and implementing the City's officially adopted federal and regional legislative agenda.
  • Serve as the City's spokesperson at the State, Federal and Regional levels.
  • Appointed salary range is $140,822 - $166,934, depending on qualifications.

Candidates must

  • Have a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Affairs, City Planning, Social Work, Sociology or related major. Plus 5 years of experience working on public policy development and implementation at the local, regional, state and federal levels. 
  • Have extensive experience moving race equity goals throughout an organization and impacting policy. 
  • Have strong knowledge of budgeting, fiscal administrations, management, and long-range planning.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work effectively with people in difficult and/or controversial situations, and is skilled at building relationships and influencing without authority.

Police Chief

Position highlights

  • We are looking for an exceptionally qualified candidate to lead our police department. A top candidate will be eager to make comprehensive and positive changes that build community trust and ensure public safety.
  • Responsible for directing and coordinating all police services within the integrated Office of Community Safety. The Minneapolis Police Department has a 2022 budget of $191.9 million and has an authorized staff of 756 sworn officers and 170 civilian employees working in 3 bureaus: Patrol, Investigations, and Professional Standards.  
  • This at-will position has a very competitive salary and benefits package for the role and expectations.

Candidates must

  • Have a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or related discipline. Plus 10 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, including senior executive assignmennts and management of community policing or crime prevention efforts.
  • Be a certified peace officer or have the ability to obtain certification as required by the Minnesota POST Board. 
  • Have a proven track record of change management and reform in a culturally and ethnically diverse community. A visionary and strategic leader who is able to communicate the need for and create long-lasting and systemic change within MPD.

Director of Fleet Services

  • Provide leadership in the management of the City's fleet of 1800 vehicles and equipment to meet a variety of transportation and equipment needs for City departments.

  • Have a relevant Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of public works experience, with an emphasis on materials handling and equipment operations.
  • Have demonstrated ability to set a vision and build the support to lead the division.
  • Understand the value of creating work teams, embracing diversity, building employee relationships, and lead by example to drive organizational success.

City Attorney

Position highlights

  • Provide leadership and supervision for a complex department, and is responsible for all legal matters connected with City government, Departments and Boards, and protecting the City's fiduciary interest.  
  • Appointed salary range is $171,789 - $217,336, depending on experience.

Candidates must

  • Have a Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school. Plus 10 years of work experience in a large scale legal operation. Experience must include supervisory experience and exposure to public sector legal operations. A qualified candidate will have passed the Minnesota Bar Examination, and be licensed to practice law in the State of Minnesota, State and Federal Courts.
  • Have outstanding and demonstrated experience in leading complex organizations through visionary, collaborative, and innovative management and partnership. 
  • Have demonstrated ability to think strategically and manage diverse and multiple functions, including embracing change in a fast-paced, dynamic municipal environment.
