Street parking rules

You can read about the street parking rules and restrictions.

General street parking rules

The most common parking rules we do not post signs for

While we post "no parking" signs for many parking restrictions, there are some common parking rules that we do not post signs for. Because they're so common, it would be impractical to post signs everywhere the rules apply.

These common parking rules exist to protect the public, including other drivers and pedestrians.

Corner clearance

You may not park a vehicle within 20 feet of an intersection corner unless otherwise allowed by a parking meter or traffic sign.

Too close to a stop sign or traffic signal

You may not park a vehicle within 30 feet of the front side of a stop sign or traffic signal unless otherwise allowed by a parking meter or traffic sign.

Blocked driveway

You may not park a vehicle within 5 feet of a private road, driveway or alley.

Blocked fire hydrant

You may not stop, idle or park a vehicle within 10 feet of a fire hydrant unless:

  • It's the only way to avoid conflict with other traffic or
  • You're following the directions of a police officer or traffic control agent

Railroad crossing

You may not park a vehicle within 50 feet of the nearest rail of a railroad crossing.

On a sidewalk

You may not stop, idle or park a vehicle on a sidewalk, sidewalk crossing or boulevard.

On a bridge

You may not stop, idle, or park a vehicle on a bridge.
