Comfortable Homes, Environmental Evaluation & Repairs (CHEER) Grant
Purpose
- Help homeowners address lead-paint and some other healthy homes hazards on both owner-occupied and rental property
Grant amount and additional benefits
- Up to $12,000 for repairs per dwelling unit
- Grant usually pays for 90% of the costs; details vary by property
- Free home inspection to detect for lead hazards by a Healthy Homes Inspector from the Minneapolis Health Department
- Free enrollment in the required EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) training course ($200 Value)
Eligibility requirements
- A child under the age of six must live at the property
- See income requirements
- The property must have been constructor before 1978
- Property owners must attend an eight-hour Lead Repair Renovation & Repair Training course
Healthy Homes 2022 (HH22) Grant
Purpose
This grant can be used to address any of the 29 healthy home hazards outlined by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Work will be based on inspection results.

- Up to $10,000 per dwelling unit to repair home hazards
- Free radon testing
- Free lead and healthy homes assessment provided by the Minneapolis Health Department
- Free enrollment in the required EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) training course ($200 Value)

- Funds may be used for both owner-occupied and rental units
- Residents must meet the income requirements
- Property owners must attend an eight-hour Lead Repair Renovation & Repair Training course
American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Grant
Purpose
This grant focuses on the three areas of a house most likely to poison a child: lead-paint on windows, window-sills and porch floors.
Property owners can find their own contractors or do the work themselves.

- Up to $12,500 for repairs per dwelling unit
- Free home inspection to detect for lead hazards by a Healthy Homes Inspector from the Minneapolis Health Department
- Free enrollment in the required EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) training course ($200 Value)
Eligibility requirements
Property must:
- Have been constructed before 1978
- Be located in a qualified census tract
Property owners must:
- Attend free EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) training course for property owners ($200 Value)
- Pay all costs beyond the grant cap of $12,500 to make property lead-safe
There are no income requirements. Anyone can apply for this grant.
