Adopt-an-Ash Receptacle

You can reduce cigarette litter in Minneapolis when you volunteer to empty an ash receptacle on a regular basis.

An ash receptacle with a Clean City label on it

When you join this program and commit to emptying an ash receptacle on a regular basis, the City will install a receptacle at no charge.

Program requirements

When you sign up for this program, you agree to the following:

  • Adopt an ash receptacle for at least two years.
  • Empty the ash insert when it's full, double bag the contents, and place the bag in your garbage cart or waste dumpster.
  • Keep the surrounding areas clear of snow, ice, litter and other waste.
  • Remove graffiti from the receptacle or contact the Clean City Coordinator to have the City remove the graffiti.
  • Report receptacle damage to the Clean City Coordinator.
