Application for Art Commission

We explain what to include in your art project application for Art Commission review.

What to know

  • In this second step, you seek approval from the Arts Commission and their Public Art Advisory Panel.
  • Your proposed project must follow the Public Art policies and procedures.
    Read the Public Art policies and procedures
  • Your application should show that your art project has been well thought out.
  • It should include all the items needed for the Art Commission review.

Next steps

If the Art Commission approves your project, it will proceed to the final approval step. If it is not approved, you will have a chance to revise your application.

Note

What to submit

For all public art projects except art wraps, you must submit:

  • Arts Commission Application
  • Images of the final design
  • Photo of the site
  • Drawing of the design in the site
  • Artist resume
  • Letter of support from the neighborhood organization or special service district
  • VARA Artist Waiver signed by each artist
  • Signed engineering drawings or letter (if needed)
  • Art Consent form
  • Applicants with previous permits: photos documenting current condition of those artworks

Timing your application submission

The Public Art Advisory Panel and Arts Commission review applications once a month.

Important dates include:

  • All application materials due: Last Wednesday of the month before the meetings
  • Public Art Advisory Panel Meeting: 1st Wednesday of the month
  • Minneapolis Arts Commission Meeting: 3rd Wednesday of the month
