What to know

The rental license billing exemption applies to:

• Homestead duplex property owners
• Homestead triplex property owners

These qualified property owners can count their property as one home for Solid Waste & Recycling billing. The exemption covers one garbage cart.

Who qualifies

• You must live in the duplex or triplex as a single household.
• You cannot rent any unit of the building that you do not occupy.
• The property must be regular homesteaded.
• You must have received less than three XCN garbage tags within the past three years.

Steps in the process

• Download the form
• Submit the form one of two ways:
  • Mail it to Regulatory Services
  • In person at the Minneapolis Service Center
• Pay the $15 fee.
• You can expect to hear from us in two to eight weeks.
• We'll send you a certificate once we approve your exemption.
