What to include on gateway pages
On gateway pages, we want to help users by telling them a little about the document, map, form or video available on the page.
Steps
- Include all of the following content types on a gateway page, in this order:
- Page header and summary
- Gray content type (see step 2)
- Group heading that says "Document(s)" "Map" "Video" or "Form".
- You may be specific. For example, "[City event] sign-up form"
- Gateway document(s) or embed
- Contact us (Optional)
- Add one of the following content types:
- Content with gray background content type
- Multicolumn content gray (Good when you have a lot of information)
- Choose one of four headings for the gray background content type: "Before you begin", "What to know", "What to do", or "How to use the map".
See heading option details with examples
When to use
You can use the Gateway: Embed block to display media (or content) provided from external sources. Some examples include:
- Tableau dashboards
- iFrames
Best practices
Do
- Do consider keeping Gateway: Embed pages focused on a single piece of content. For example, providing one Tableau application per page.
- Do provide a link for full screen use.
Don't
- Don't use a Gateway: Embed page as a landing page for a collection of applications.
Accessibility
Be sure to select the right accessibility option for your document when you use a Gateway: Embed. If a document is not accessible, we need to give visitors the ability to request an accessible version.
