Clear The Shelter weekend set for pet adoptions

June 6, 2023

Beginning Friday, June 9, Minneapolis Animal Care & Control is hosting a Clear The Shelter weekend where they are hoping that all adoptable animals in their care will find their forever homes.

Anyone wishing to adopt can visit the shelter at 212 17th Ave. N. from 1 to 5 p.m., Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday. They will be partnered with a staff member or a volunteer “matchmaker” to help them find the right pet.

As part of Clear The Shelter weekend, Minneapolis Animal Care & Control is waiving adoption fees other than a license purchase for Minneapolis residents.

Those visiting Minneapolis Animal Care & Control will have the opportunity to meet adoptable animals like Smokey, a dog that loves to give hugs by resting his forehead against the person who is petting him.

Smokey is a bit timid when he meets new people but warms up quickly. He enjoys fenced yards and does well on car rides. Smokey is hoping to find an owner who wants to help him enjoy his older years.

Minneapolis Animal Care & Control works with residents to create safe and healthy communities for people and animals. Its staff includes two veterinarians, three veterinary technicians, four animal care technicians and a dozen animal control officers who, among other things, rescue animals, enforce laws pertaining to animal welfare and investigate animal crimes.

In addition to staff, volunteers spent more than 7,000 hours of their time working with animals at the shelter. More information on adopting animals, volunteering, and supporting Animal Care & Control is available on the City website.
