City of Minneapolis expands access to polls with additional hours, early vote locations

October 19, 2026

With two weeks to go until Election Day, Minneapolis Elections & Voter Services (EVS) is expanding access for voters by offering extended hours and multiple ways for residents to cast their votes. Starting Monday, Minneapolis residents have access to expanded hours at the city's main Early Vote Center at 980 E. Hennepin Ave. Monday also marks the beginning of 12 one-day pop-up early vote locations across the City. Then starting Tuesday, Oct. 20, a new North and South Early Vote center will provide residents two additional locations to cast their vote or drop off their ballots ahead of Election Day.

“At a time when voting access and election administrations are facing growing political pressure across the country, Minneapolis is taking a different approach and opening more doors, instead of putting up barriers,” said Mayor Jacob Frey. “Our job is not to tell people how to vote – it's to make sure every eligible voter can cast their ballot freely, safely, and confidently.”

“Early voting is a secure, easy way to make your voice heard in this election,” said Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon. “These sites allow Minneapolis residents another option to make voting a part of their regular routine and help ensure Minnesota once again leads the nation in voter turnout.”

As of Friday, Oct. 16, 18,132 ballots have already been received by EVS, a 34.7 percent increase from the 13,714 ballots returned at the same point in the 2022 gubernatorial election and a 47.7 percent increase from the 12,501 ballots cast at this point in 2018.
