Community-led mental health and wellbeing request for proposals

The City is now accepting proposals for community-led mental health services.

Overview

We are looking for proposals for mental health and wellbeing services that are:

  • Community-led
  • Culturally specific
  • Relationship-centered

These services will add to existing clinical care and expand access to prevention and early support. They will be provided at the new South Minneapolis Community Safety Center.

Culturally specific care

Culturally specific services offer cultural communities quality care that is:

  • Trauma-informed
  • Respectful 
  • Understandable
  • Effective
  • Equitable
  • Responsive

Background

We seek to strengthen community capacity to support mental wellbeing by increasing:

  • Skills
  • Awareness
  • Social connection
  • Belonging
  • Access to culturally meaningful healing opportunities

Goals

The goals of this pilot program are to:

  • Respond to mental health concerns
  • Promote resilience
  • Reduce disparities
  • Prevent mental health challenges
  • Foster thriving communities
  • Foster trust, connection and collective healing
  • Encourage innovation in community-led and non-clinical approaches

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include:

  • Nonprofits
  • Community-based organization
  • Tribal organizations
  • Faith-based entities
  • Culturally specific service providers
  • Grassroots collectives (with a fiscal sponsor)

Applicants must have a strong grounding in culturally responsive practices. 

They must also have prior experience working with one or more of the following:

  • BIPOC communities
  • Youth
  • Immigrant/refugee populations
