Comprehensive plan
Our current plan
Minneapolis 2040
Our current comprehensive plan is called Minneapolis 2040. It went into effect in 2020. The plan answers the question, "What do we want Minneapolis to look like by the year 2040?" It was developed from 2016 to 2018, in partnership with the people of Minneapolis. Over these three years:
- City staff attended 180 meetings and received over 20,000 comments.
- The people of Minneapolis shared their vision and hopes for the future of our city.
- Using ideas from the community, we came up with a plan that envisions a Minneapolis where everyone can thrive.
Under Minneapolis 2040 the City has made changes like:
- Make it safer for people to move around the city
- Create more housing options in more places
- Produce and preserve more affordable housing
- Develop new programs to support local businesses and entrepreneurs
- Create new rules and incentives that protect the environment as the city grows
