Requirements

If you plan to charge rent for a stay of 30 days or less, you will need a short-term rental license. This also applies to internet platforms like Airbnb and Vrbo.

An owner can only have one short-term rental property besides their home. This includes limited liability corporations (LLCs). It also applies to people with more than one LLC.

You cannot get more than one short-term rental license. If you own other units, you must get a regular rental license for them.

In a building with 20 or more units, only 10 percent can be short-term rentals.

Exemptions

You do not need a short-term rental license if:

  • You rent a spare room while you remain in your home
  • The rental is more than 30 days

If the rental is more than 30 days, you will need a regular rental license.
