Disposal method: Hazardous waste

Pressurized cylinders can injure collection crews if put in carts at your home. Do not attempt to puncture the cylinder. Hennepin County Drop-off facilities will accept one pound propane cylinders.

The following locations accept any size propane cylinder, fire extinguisher, or refrigerant tanks. Call ahead for hours of operations and fees.

Recycling sorting facilities can only take metal food and beverage cans, bottles and trays. Other metal items can hurt employees or damage equipment at the recycling sorting facility.

Not accepted for pickup Solid Waste & Recycling or drop off at the South Transfer Station.  You must bring lead-acid batteries to a drop-off location. They are not accepted for pickup by Solid Waste and Recycling or drop off at the South Transfer Station.  

• Any type of residential battery, bring to a Hennepin County Drop-Off facility
• For local drop-offs for rechargeable batteries, search The Battery Network's website

Do not drain lead-acid batteries. 

Any retail store that sells lead acid batteries is required by state law to accept and recycle up to five (5) batteries at no charge with no purchase required.

Disposal method: Garbage

Bag the pump or sprayer and put it in the garbage. Recycle the bottle.

Pumps and sprayers are made of plastic (sometimes multiple types) and metal. They are not able to be recycled at this time.

Disposal method: Other

Donate or sell if usable. Not accepted for pickup by Solid Waste & Recycling or drop-off at the South Transfer Station. If not usable, bring to a private transfer station or landfill.

There are many factors that determine how to dispose of a boat. Metal boats with all non-metal parts removed may be accepted at a scrap metal recycler.
