Disposal method: Organics, Garbage

What to do:

Natural cork from wine bottles can be composted. Bag and put in your organics recycling cart. Organics may be set out in a paper grocery bag or a BPI certified compostable plastic bag.

Cork flooring, shoes or other cork items should be bagged and put in the garbage. Plastic cork must be thrown in the garbage. If you are unsure if it's natural or plastic cork, bag and put in your garbage cart.

There is no cost for Solid Waste & Recycling customers to get a green organics cart at their home. Anyone, including renters, can sign up.

Disposal method: Large recyclable item pick up, Drop-off

What to do:
Donate if usable. If not usable, we'll pick this up on your recycling week. Large items must be less than 6 feet in length. Large items must be less than 6 feet in length. Limit of 2 large items per week. Put large items next to your carts on your recycling day. Please label the item "for Solid Waste".

Solid Waste & Recycling customers receive vouchers to bring extra garbage, large items and building materials to the South Transfer Station each year. Vouchers must be requested in advance.

Disposal method: Yard waste

What to do:
Set out for yard waste pickup during yard waste season in a reusable container or an accepted bag. Yard waste season starts in April and ends in November.

More information:
Yard waste is not accepted in any City-provided cart. You cannot bring yard waste to the South Transfer Station. It is illegal to put yard waste in the garbage in Minnesota.

What to do:

Empty, rinse, put the cap back on and put in your recycling cart.

More information:
Recycling facilities only accept plastic bottles and containers #1 (PET), #2 (HDPE), and #5 (PP) from food, beverages, bathroom and laundry products. 
Other plastic items that are too big or too small are not able to be sorted correctly. They also do not take plastics that are black in color.

Fun fact:

Rinsing containers helps keep your carts clean and free of critters. A simple rinse or wipe is enough. You do not need to wash the container with soap or water. As long as it feels like an empty container, it will get recycled.
