Disposal method: Recycle

What to do:
Donate if usable. If not usable, remove and properly manage batteries. Once the battery is removed, bag and put in your recycling cart. If you cannot remove the battery from the device, bring the whole item to a drop-off location.
More information:
You do not need to remove the binding or cover. Remember to remove the battery from any musical books before recycling.

Fun fact:
Hennepin County Libraries may accept sellable fiction, current non-fiction, or other classic books to include in their books sales.
Each time paper is recycled the fibers break and get shorter. Paper can be recycled up to 7 times before the fibers are to small to make new paper.

What to do:
Car seats should not be reused due to safety concerns. We'll pick this up on your garbage day. Limit of 2 large items per week. Put large items next to your carts by 6 a.m. on your garbage day. Please label the item "for Solid Waste".

Fun fact:

Car seats have a 6-10 year lifespan. Some retail stores offer discounts if you bring a or car seat in for recycling. Check with retailers near you if they offer this program.

Disposal method: Large non-recyclable item pick up, Drop-off

What to do:
Carpeting and rugs must be cut and rolled to be picked up as garbage. Rolls must
  • be less than 5 feet long and less than 12 inches in diameter
  • secured with tape or twine
  • weigh more than 40 pounds
Properly prepared carpeting will be picked up on your garbage day. Limit of 2 rolls per week. Place next to your carts on your garbage day. Please post a sign or write on the item "for Solid Waste".

If you are having carpeting installed, ask your service provider if they will take carpeting back for recycling.

Do not disassemble furniture. If broken down, the crew may tag your large item as building materials. We do not pick up building materials.
