What to do:
Donate if usable. If not usable, remove and properly manage batteries. Bring the device to one of the following
• Fix-it Clinic (Volunteers will help teach you how to fix it)
• electronics recycler
Contact a local social service organization to see if they accept donated cell phones to give to people in need.

You could also keep it in a box with other small electronic or metal items. When the box is full, set it next to your recycling cart by 6 a.m. on your recycling day. Label the box "for Solid Waste". The crew will write your item on a list. A separate truck will come the next business day to pick it up for recycling.
Fun fact:
You can bag and put batteries labeled “alkaline” in your garbage. They are non-hazardous. No other type of battery is accepted for pickup by Solid Waste and Recycling or drop off at the South Transfer Station. You must bring rechargeable batteries to a drop-off location.

You must tape the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals of the batteries for safe storage and transport. Bring the whole device to a drop-off location for recycling if you can't remove the battery.
