Items marked Caution, Caustic, Corrosive, Danger, Flammable, Poison, Volatile, or Warning are considered hazardous waste.

Fun fact:

Not all cleaning products are hazardous waste. Even so, you should bring them to a hazardous waste drop-off site due to the chemicals used to make them. Empty bottles can be recycled unless they're labeled with one of the caution words above.

Call the retailer where you purchased the tank to ask about take back and recycling options.

Pressurized cylinders can injure collection crews if put in carts at your home. Do not attempt to puncture the cylinder. 
The following locations accept any size propane cylinder, fire extinguisher, or refrigerant tanks. Call ahead for hours of operations and fees.

What to do:

Save for reuse or donate if usable. If unable to reuse, bag and put in your garbage cart. 

More information:
Post on a neighborhood social media platform to see if anyone in your neighborhood is interested for reuse. Some local shipping stores may also accept for reuse.
You cannot recycle plastic bags or films in your recycling cart at home. If clean and dry, they can be brought to plastic film drop-off locations for recycling.

Donate if usable. If not usable, bring liquid paint and dried oil-based paint to one of the following

  • type of paint accepted
  • container sizes accepted

More information:

Empty paint cans or cans with dried latex (water-based) paint may be put in your garbage cart. Leave the lid off the can so the collection crew can see it's empty. Paint and paint cans are not accepted at the South Transfer Station.

Donate if usable. If not usable, set this item next to your carts out by 6 a.m. on your recycling day. Please label "for Solid Waste". There is a limit of 2 large items per week.
