The Mayor’s Office, Office of Community Safety (OCS) and Minneapolis City Council members are partnering to host and facilitate community listening sessions across the city as Minneapolis conducts a national search for its next police chief.
Residents and community members are invited to share the priorities, qualities and characteristics they want to see in the next leader of the Minneapolis Police Department. Feedback gathered through the sessions will help inform the position profile and candidate selection process.

Search for the Minneapolis Police Chief
The search process for the new Chief of Police will include engagement with both internal and external stakeholders. Feedback from the listening sessions, stakeholder engagement and an internal Police Department survey will be reviewed and summarized to help develop the position profile and inform the candidate selection process. Once recruitment begins, applications will be reviewed and candidates will be selected for interviews. Finalists will then be forwarded to Mayor Frey for additional interviews and consideration.
The Mayor will select a nominee, who will undergo a background investigation conducted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension before moving through the City Council nomination and confirmation process.
