Project overview

Many car crashes happen on the streets of Phillips that cause serious injury or death. The aim of the project is to reduce speeding and improve traffic safety. By meeting these goals, the street will be safer and more comfortable for people who walk, roll, or drive.

Las calles de Phillips son sitio de muchos accidentes que causan accidentes graves o la muerte. La meta de este proyecto es reducir el exceso de velocidad y mejorar la seguridad vial del barrio. Al cumplir este objetivo, las calles serán más seguras para las personas que caminan, ruedan, andan en bicicleta o manejan.

What to expect

What to expect in 2026:

• Revised traffic signal systems will be complete on Chicago Ave at 25^th St and 28^th
• New traffic control signal system will be finished at the intersection of 28^th St and 10^th
• Permanent signs will be installed.
• More pavement markings shall be installed in the Spring.
• Seeding and final items will be addressed in 2026.

The six intersection improvements have been completed. The remaining minor construction items will be resumed in 2026.

Due to the project completion, the Phillips traffic safety project - Bi-weekly stakeholder meetings have concluded. Thank you for your involvement during construction.

Pre-Construction stakeholder meeting

We held a Pre-construction stakeholder meeting on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 to present an overview of the upcoming construction work, discuss construction impacts, and answer attendee questions.

Two rounds of public engagement

We conducted two rounds of engagement for this project. Each round included a series of public meetings and events. The first round introduced the project to residents. It helped decide what types of improvements to focus on and where. The second round updated stakeholders on the design progress and helped inform its decisions.
