Project overview

The New Nicollet Avenue project will rebuild Nicollet Avenue from Lake Street to Cecil Newman Lane. It will also improve the bridge over the Midtown Greenway. Cecil Newman Lane will be redone from Nicollet Ave to 1st Ave S. An ADA-compliant access ramp will be added for easier access to the Midtown Greenway from 1st Avenue S.

Upgrades will include:

• New sidewalks
• ADA pedestrian ramps
• Bicycle accommodations
• New pavement
• New curb and gutter
• Utility improvements

The project will also include as needed:

• Signal improvements
• New signage
• New pavement markings

Project schedule

Construction is anticipated to begin in 2025. 

For the Nicollet Bridge over greenway:

• Construction began September 15, 2025
• The removal of the existing Nicollet Ave bridge started October 14.
• Midtown Greenway Trail will also be closed for two weeks starting on October 14 to accommodate the bridge removal.
