Project overview

We are building a new two-way protected bikeway 42nd St, between Stevens Ave and Portland Ave. Existing bike lanes between Portland Ave and Bloomington Ave will also be improved.

The project team is looking at options to extend the new protected bikeway up to Nicollet Ave.

The project is part of a resurfacing program of 42nd St and will only impact the roadway space. Sidewalks and curbs will not change.

The project will include:

  • New two-way bikeway
  • New bikeway curb
  • New pavement markings

Project purpose

42nd St is part of the City’s All Ages and Abilities Network. More than 100 people bike on this corridor each day. The proposed bikeway will improve safety and comfort for current and future riders. It will also provide traffic-calming benefits for people walking, rolling, and driving.
