Overview

We offer residents many opportunities to become stewards of our environment. One option is to take part in the City's recycling block leader program.

You'll get the chance to educate your neighbors about:

  • Waste reduction
  • Reuse
  • Recycling
  • Organics recycling
  • More

As a recycling block leader, you can give as little or as much of your time as you are able.

Getting started

You decide how to share recycling information with your neighbors. Here are a few suggestions for reaching out to your neighbors:

  • Knock on doors. We can give you educational materials to hand out, including brochures, stickers and yard signs.
  • Send email updates. If you have your neighbors' email addresses, you can send quick updates about materials that might be contaminating recycling and organics carts.
  • Attend block club meetings. If your block has regular block club meetings, ask to be on the agenda every once in a while to share recycling information.
  • Set up a table at a block party. If your block hosts a national night out party, set up an educational table with recycling and organics recycling information.
  • Post on social media. Post information on Facebook, Twitter, NextDoor and other social media outlets.
  • Be creative! If you’re inspired to develop your own projects for the block, we encourage your creativity.
