To read the details:
- Use the navigation bar to view pages that explain the City’s efforts to support unsheltered people.
- Encampments: View encampment locations alongside summary counts of encampments and people.
- Home: View a brief overview of how the City provides aid to unsheltered residents through resource referrals.
Terms to know
Encampment: A grouping of tents or temporary structures in Minneapolis that are shelter.
Encampment identified: A verified encampment of a tent, tent like structure, or temporary structure. The homeless response team (HRT) visits reported encampment sites to confirm that they exist.
Resource referrals: HRT shares resources and services with unsheltered people. This includes to:
- Connect unsheltered people to Hennepin County and contracted community partners to case manage.
- Provide the opportunity to store personal items through the Downtown Improvement District.
- Connect unsheltered people to shelter services.
- Provide medical attention with Healthcare for the Homeless.
- Arrange transportation to resources.
Notice of ordinance violations: An inspector determines any potential property conditions at an encampment. The inspector may issue an Order to Correct that includes a due date to allow the owner time to bring their property back into compliance.
Unsheltered homelessness
People staying in a place not meant for habitation. These places include:
- Vehicles
- House trailer
- Tent
- Other temporary structures
These cannot be parked or placed upon any public street or on any public or private premises or street in the city to be used as shelter.
