The City is now accepting proposals to support long-term access for growing food in Minneapolis.

Overview

We are looking to identify Minneapolis lots that can be used to sustainably grow food and associated growers.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Organizations
  • Individuals

Proposal

As a part of their proposals, applicants will propose:

  • A lot to be purchased and put into a trust for long-term urban agricultural use
  • A budget to pay for infrastructure, tools and supplies to grow food on lots selected for purchase (pending availability of funds in 2026)

Details

Lot eligibility

A lot must fit the following criteria to be eligible for this RFP:

  • Is in Minneapolis
  • Is in an underserved area
  • Has a current owner who is willing to sell
  • Is valued at or below $55,000
  • Fits the zoning code (see RFP document for more details)
  • Has safe soil conditions
    • If not, the applicant has a plan or resources for remediation or implementing safety measures, such as raised beds

Program goals

The primary program goals are to:

  • Maintain spaces in food and production over time
  • Assist a community focused grower in supporting healthy food access
