Neighborhood greenway improvements
Project overview
Neighborhood greenways are All Ages and Abilities (AAA) bikeways on low-traffic residential streets. Growing the greenway network makes it safer for people of all ages and abilities to get around the city by bike.
The City of Minneapolis plans to make improvements to over 50 miles of low-traffic residential streets. This is part of the City’s Transportation Action Plan (TAP) mode shift goal for 3 out of every 5 trips to be taken by walking, biking, or transit.
Planning for 2040 and beyond
The Neighborhood Greenways Plan is a key action under the TAP. The work advances the TAP goals by delivering projects that are:
- Strategic - Closing network gaps and support the greatest number of trips made by bicycle.
- Equitable - Investing in areas where safe, low-stress travel options are most needed.
- Transformative - Grow the network by adding greenways and improving existing corridors.
