Erosion and sediment control

street with mud and construction around it

Sediment is the largest pollutant of our water by volume. Protect Minneapolis streams, lakes and rivers by covering exposed dirt with grass or other plants. Use best management practices for construction projects.

Apply for a soil erosion permit (required for any land disturbance activity greater than 500 square feet (or 5 cubic yards)).

See Chapter 52 – Erosion and sediment control and drainage
