How to apply

If you see an opening that you're interested in, follow these steps to apply.

See current openings

  1. Create a member profile in our Legislative Information Management System (LIMS).
  2. Login to your profile.
  3. Find an open seat on the current openings page. This page:
    • Shows all open seats and their requirements.
    • Links to details about each board or commission.
  4. Select a seat and press apply to begin the process.
  5. Complete the application:
    • Required fields are marked with an asterisk.
    • Some fields are public under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.
    • Note that the demographic questionnaire is optional.

Create a profile

Requirements to serve

To serve on on a board or commission, you must meet these requirements:

  • Be a resident of the City of Minneapolis.
  • Not be a current employee of the City of Minneapolis.
  • May only serve on one advisory board at a time.
  • Cannot be on the same board as a close family member.

In certain cases, these requirements can be waived by the City Council and Mayor.

How to chose a seat

Some seats have specific requirements, such as:

  • Be a resident of a specific ward.
  • Have certain credentials or qualifications. 
  • Have specific life experience.

Be sure to select a seat that is a match for you. You can apply for more than one open seat. 

Privacy and your data

We will not share your private data

  • Only City officials and staff who need to see your profile information and application will have access.
  • Some of the data is public under the Minnesota Data Practices Act.
