Preservation review

We explain what preservation review means and how to get it.

New ordinance coming soon

We’re switching to a new preservation ordinance on January 1. While we update the website, contact staff if you have questions.

What it means

Preservation review is needed to:

  • Alter or demolish a designated property
  • Determine if a property is eligible for designation

There are two types of review processes:

  • Administrative review
  • Public hearing review

How to start preservation review

You can either:

  • Submit a permit application for a designated property
  • Contact staff about the process

Staff review projects by:

  • Following the processes outlined in the City ordinance
  • Reviewing design guidelines, if applicable
  • Reviewing the Secretary of the Interior’s Standard
