St. Paul Robbery Leads to Pursuit and Stand-Off in Minneapolis

June 16, 2021

On Wednesday around noon, St. Paul Police responded to a report of an aggravated robbery at a business on the 800 block of Arcade Street. Reports were that the suspect robbed the business at gunpoint.

Responding St. Paul Police Department officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop it. When the driver failed to pull over, St. Paul Police pursued.

Shortly after, they notified the Minneapolis Police Department that the pursuit was entering Minneapolis and as squads attempted to get into position to assist, the suspect vehicle crashed into a commercial vehicle on the 2900 block Newton Avenue North. The suspect remained in the vehicle and made threats against officers and anyone else that approached his car.

Over the next four hours, negotiators from the Minneapolis Police Department’s SWAT team spoke intermittently with the suspect. After extensive conversation, the suspect agreed to surrender to officers.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident and he was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries he received as a result of the motor vehicle crash.

The St. Paul Police Department will be the lead agency investigating and referring for charges the all incidents related to the robbery, pursuit and crash.

The Minneapolis Police Department would like to thank the law enforcement agencies and community who supported the MPD during this event. It allowed the MPD to slow everything down and deescalate the situation which lead to a very successful resolution to this incident.

The Minneapolis GO # for this case is 21-131328.
