2025

Future community owner

  • City staff will work with community members to recommend one community owner to the City Council and the Mayor.
  • The Mayor and City Council will make the final selection of the future community owner.
  • The selected owner, community, and City staff will work together to shape the future of the site.
2024

Identify future use and ownership

  • We encouraged all community members to be part of engagement events in 2024.
  • Some events included discussion on community priorities for the Peoples' Way.
  • We included the community's priorities in a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to choose a community owner.
  • The RFQ is a way for the City to ask interested group to apply to the City to become the future community owner.
  • We issued the RFQ in November 2024. The City and community members are discussing who will be the future property owner.
2023

Acquired the property

In June 2023, the City:

  • Completed its due diligence
  • Purchased the property

 

2022

Listen and prepare

Listening sessions

We are listening to the community's ideas about the Peoples' Way as we re-envision the intersection of 38th & Chicago.
In October, we hosted a learning table about the Speedway gas station. 

City Council actions

In November, the City Council approved:

  • The purchase of the site
  • An environmental investigation of the site
