Open Streets Glenwood set for Sunday, July 16

July 10, 2023

Open Streets Glenwood makes its debut Sunday, July 16. A one-mile stretch of Glenwood Avenue from Washburn Avenue North near Theodore Wirth Regional Park to Bryant Avenue near the Minneapolis Farmers Market will be closed 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to give people a chance to enjoy the street car-free.

You can walk, roll or bike along Glenwood during the free, family-friendly event. There will be live music, food vendors, booths featuring a range of community organizations and much more for this first-ever Open Streets event on Glenwood. More than a street festival, Open Streets events allows neighbors to experience city streets as public spaces where communities thrive.

Learn more about the City’s As You Go MPLS mode-shift campaign

Visit the City of Minneapolis Public Works Department’s table for Open Streets Glenwood at Newton Avenue North to learn about the new As You Go MPLS mode-shift marketing campaign. Public Works, in collaboration with the City’s Communications Department, has launched a multi-year mode-shift marketing effort designed to encourage people to leave their personal vehicle at home and try walking, rolling, biking or taking transit for more of their daily trips.

The campaign supports the City’s Transportation Action Plan, which includes a goal of having 60% of trips in Minneapolis taken by walking, biking, or transit by 2030. The As You Go MPLS program encourages Minneapolis residents who are open to walking, biking, and/or public transit, to try those travel modes in low-stress situations to overcome the initial hurdles of familiarity and awareness.
