Attendees of the Public Health Community Institute (PHCI) learn how to create and evaluate plans. These plans reduce health disparities in their communities.

Who is eligible

Open to all

Anyone can register to attend the free PHCI. The program is for those interested in building competency and capacity to include public health services in their:

  • Workplace
  • Neighborhood
  • Communities

Our focus

We focus on those experiencing the highest health disparities. 

Eligible attendees include:

  • Individuals 
  • Organizations

Optional funding opportunity

Community project

You can apply for funding if you are interested in completing a public health project as part of this training.

You are eligible to apply for funding if you:

  • Are over 18
  • Are interested in leading a public health program that impacts Minneapolis residents
  • Complete core competency sessions
  • Attend two more topic sessions

Core competency topics

PHCI core competencies are the skills you need to reduce health disparities in your community.

Core competencies include:

  • Public health and health equity 101 
  • Program design, mapping and implementation 
  • Program evaluation 
  • Budgeting for success

Core competency details

  • Four weeks in May
  • Each session is 2 to 3 hours
  • Open to all
  • Required to be eligible to apply for funding
