About LaTrisha Vetaw
Council Member LaTrisha Vetaw has proudly represented Minneapolis’ Fourth Ward since 2022, bringing a lifelong commitment to public service, community health, and the residents of North Minneapolis.
Since her election to the Minneapolis City Council, Council Member Vetaw has focused on advancing public safety, economic development, infrastructure investment, youth engagement, and neighborhood revitalization. Through her leadership and advocacy, she has helped secure millions of dollars in local, state, federal, and private investment to strengthen North Minneapolis neighborhoods, support community-driven development, and improve quality of life for residents.
Prior to serving on the City Council, Council Member Vetaw was elected to the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board in 2017. During her tenure, she helped secure $5 million for improvements at North Commons Park and an additional $3 million for the 26th Avenue North trail connection. She also championed the creation of the Walt Dziedzic Innovation Fund, which supports innovative recreational programming for underserved communities, including youth, seniors, girls and young women, and members of Minneapolis’ Somali community.
Council Member Vetaw also dedicated 15 years of service to NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center, where she served as Director of Health Policy and Advocacy. In that role, she built broad coalitions of residents, community leaders, and young people to advance meaningful public health initiatives and advocate for policy change at both the local and state levels.
A longtime North Minneapolis resident, Council Member Vetaw has called the community home since the age of 12. Raised by a single mother who brought her family to Minnesota in search of greater opportunity, she experienced firsthand the challenges many working families face. Her family relied on programs such as Section 8 housing assistance and food support during difficult times—experiences that continue to shape her commitment to equity, opportunity, and public service. Inspired by her mother's example of civic engagement and community involvement, she learned early that voting, advocacy, and service are responsibilities that should never be taken for granted.
Council Member Vetaw was the first member of her family to graduate from college, working in food service and manufacturing to help pay her way through school.
Today, she continues to live in Ward 4 alongside much of her family, including her mother, siblings, nieces, and nephews. Outside of public service, she enjoys gardening, traveling, exploring Minneapolis on her scooter, and spending time with family. She remains deeply committed to advocating for North Minneapolis and believes the City's greatest strength lies in its people and in the collective work of building a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Minneapolis for all.
