Roads open, vehicle restrictions lifted at site of Saturday’s fatal shooting

January 25, 2026

Roads are open, and the vehicle perimeter surrounding 26th St. W and Nicollet Ave has been lifted – one day after a man was fatally shot by federal immigration agents. The Minnesota National Guard assignments have also ended at the site.

The Minneapolis Police Department reports that there were no arrests or reports of burglaries or fires overnight Saturday into Sunday, and activity remained overwhelmingly calm and peaceful. City crews cleared debris from the roadway to give emergency vehicles and others the ability to get through.

Other efforts planned Sunday include:

  • City leaders from Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED) and Regulatory Services are checking in with area businesses and residents to assess status and offer resources. Crews will start to clean up graffiti in and around the site. Note that these teams will be driving clearly marked City vehicles.
  • Crews will start to clean up graffiti in and around the site. Note that these teams will be driving clearly marked City vehicles.

Last night, thousands of people peacefully gathered at sites across Minneapolis to remember the two people shot and killed during interactions with federal immigration agents this month.

“The memorials and gatherings were peaceful,” said Mayor Jacob Frey. “Thank you to our law enforcement partners, community organizations and leaders, City staff, and neighbors who helped keep things calm and safe last night. Let’s continue that collective effort today.”

The City’s website has various resources for food and rental assistance, legal resources, and resources for health matters, among other critical needs. As the forecast calls for another frigid day of temperatures, the City reminds people to take steps to stay warm. With very cold wind chills, dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and take warming breaks when possible. Consider avoiding alcohol and caffeine, as you can get colder faster after consumption.
