City Trees events showcase Leaf 'N Learn Tree Care Festival

May 21, 2025

The City of Minneapolis' Leaf 'N Learn Tree Care Festival is a free, family-friendly community event focused on tree planting, care, education and tree-inspired art. It is taking place May 31 from noon to 3 p.m. at Utepils Brewing (225 Thomas Ave. N. #700).

Tree experts and local organizations will share ways to keep your trees healthy through:

  • Soil: Learn how to improve soil health for your tree’s roots.
  • Light: Learn where to plant based on sunlight needs.
  • Air: Learn how to space tree plantings and how pruning helps support tree strength.
  • Water: Get tips on how and when to water after planting.

Other opportunities include:

  • Tree-inspired art: Create designs of trees and leaves with a local artist
  • POETREE station: Write poems with a poet
  • Puppet show: Enjoy a fun, interactive show for kids to learn about trees

Tree planting demonstrations

The City will host hourly planting demonstrations and educate how to:

  • Dig a proper hole for planting
  • Trim roots properly
  • Plant at the proper depth

Minneapolis residents can buy a low-cost tree while supplies last. Show proof of a Minneapolis planting address to buy a tree for just $30.

Utepils is also participating in our Trees for Businesses and Organizations planting program. This program plants low-cost trees for businesses, nonprofits, organization and apartment buildings with five or more units. Planting takes place in the spring and fall.
