Minneapolis minimum wage increases to $16.37 for all employers

December 19, 2025

Starting January 1, 2026, the minimum wage for all employees in the City of Minneapolis will adjust for inflation and increase to $16.37/hour. This represents an increase of 40 cents from the 2025 minimum wage of $15.97 and is higher than the 2026 State of Minnesota minimum wage of $11.41/hour. Coverage depends on the physical location (in the City of Minneapolis) of the employee while performing work. Employees are eligible regardless of their age or the size of their employer.

Employers must display the Minneapolis labor standards poster in workplaces in languages needed by employees. It must also be distributed to all new hires along with wage theft notices and employee sick and safe time notices at the start of their employment. The Minneapolis Labor Standards poster is available to download in 10 different languages on our website.

A $15 per hour rate was out of reach for as many as 78,000—or 1 in 4—workers in Minneapolis before 2018. The Municipal Minimum Wage Ordinance changed that.

The City’s wage theft prevention ordinance provides workers in Minneapolis with an additional avenue to recover unpaid wages—such as minimum wage and overtime—through enforcement by the City’s Civil Rights Department. Enforcement of workers’ rights supports the City’s goals of stimulating inclusive economic growth by reducing economic and racial disparities. Violations can be reported by calling 311, filling out an online form, or in person at City Hall room 239.
