The City of Minneapolis is inviting the community to an upcoming open house that will provide an update on future steps for the Minneapolis Democracy Center (MDC) at 3000 Minnehaha Ave. At the open house, LSE Architects will provide an update on the design process for the Election & Voter Services spaces.
Community Space RFP
Both RFP applicants for the community partner space will present their proposals to community. The applicants for the community space are Change Inc. and Mama Sheila’s House of Soul. This will be followed by a Q&A session and a survey that attendees can take to indicate their opinions of the two applicants. This survey will be available online for several weeks following the event for other community members to complete. The engagement feedback and findings will be presented to City Council at a meeting later this year, tentatively in November.

Background
In April, the City Council unanimously approved a contract with LSE Architects for architectural, engineering, construction administration, and cost-estimating services. The Minneapolis Democracy Center will house Elections and Voter Services as well as a large, ground-floor space for community partner use. This will include the Early Vote Center, offices for election staff, flexible space for election-related equipment and supplies and up to 8,000 square feet space available for lease to a community partner. The City’s community engagement efforts found 70% of respondents living within the 3rd Precinct support plans to create the Minneapolis Democracy Center. The project is anticipated to move into construction in Q1 2026.
