Community listening sessions planned to inform search for new Minneapolis police chief

April 12, 2022

City Council Member LaTrisha Vetaw, chair of the Council’s Public Health & Safety Committee, is working with Mayor Jacob Frey’s office and the Mayor’s Police Chief Search Committee on a series of community listening sessions. The listening sessions will help inform the search process for the next Minneapolis police chief and will be held in each of the City’s five police precincts.

Community listening sessions

  • 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Monday, April 18. Folwell Park building, 1615 Dowling Ave. N.
  • 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21. Elliot Park building, 1000 E. 14th St.
  • 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Monday, April 25. Powderhorn Park building, 3400 15th Ave. S.
  • 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27. Logan Park building, 690 13th Ave. NE
  • 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park building, 4055 Nicollet Ave.

The community feedback, guidance and perspective received during these sessions will be an integral piece in the creation of the position profile and will inform the entire search process for the new police chief.

“Intentionally selecting the next chief of police is among the most consequential decisions before our city,” Frey said. “The more voices centered and heard in the search process, the better we will be for it. I’m grateful for Council Member LaTrisha Vetaw’s leadership in organizing and hosting these events to engage community members across Minneapolis.”

“The next chief of police will be instrumental in shaping the future of MPD,” Vetaw said. “It is important that community members have an opportunity to weigh in with their feedback and vision. I am looking forward to hearing from and engaging with residents about this very important hire.”

Survey

Community members who cannot attend a listening session can give their feedback through an online survey by May 2.
