Goals
The three Resilience Hub sites have:
- Solar and battery storage microgrids installed
- Developed emergency plans with community for different emergencies
- Resilience Hub
Our goal is to build more partnerships with other organizations. This is to create a Resilience Hub Network across the city.
Construction planning
Construction planning in progress for solar and battery storage microgrids at each Resilience Hub site (estimated completion summer of 2026). Community engagement activities continue, and Resilience Hub emergency planning begins.
Proposal approved and funding provided
Spring
The City, Xcel, and Resilience Hub host sites finalize the Resilient Minneapolis Project plan and submit it to the PUC for approval.
Summer
PUC approves the proposal. Minnesota Pollution Control Agency funding helps kick off community engagement activities.
Project coordinator hired
A project coordinator was hired by the City using the de Beaumont Foundation grant funds.
Grant awarded
The de Beaumont Foundation awarded a grant to support the work.
Host sites selected
Xcel Energy choose three host sites to create solar and battery storage microgrids:
- Sabathani Community Center
- Minneapolis American Indian Center
- Minneapolis Public Schools in partnership with Renewable Energy Partners
Xcel Energy requests proposals
Xcel Energy responded to the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) to help communities recover from the pandemic. This led to Xcel requesting proposals for the Resilient Minneapolis Project (RMP).
Health Department receives grant
The Minneapolis Health Department received a grant from Pew Charitable Trust to explore a Resilience Hub with Little Earth.
This included:
- A solar and battery storage feasibility study
- Weatherization of some apartment units
- Emergency preparedness activities
- Asthma education
