- City staff pick up from half of residential customers.
- The City contracts with Minneapolis Refuse Inc. (MRI) to pick up from the other half.

We offer the following collection services.
Pickup fees are on your monthly City of Minneapolis utility bill.
Customers get vouchers to bring waste to our South Transfer Station.
We also:
Residential garbage is brought to the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC).
HERC is a a waste-to-energy facility owned by Hennepin County in downtown Minneapolis.
Building materials are brought by customers to the South Transfer Station.
Some are recycled and some are landfilled. Non-recyclable building materials go to a construction and demolition landfill.
In 2024, Solid Waste & Recycling collected a total of 132,350 tons of material.
This is a 1.5% increase from 2023.
