Environmental reviews

We explain when, why and how we study the environmental impact of construction projects in Minneapolis.

Overview

Some construction projects require an environmental review.

  • We need to complete the review before we can issue a building permit for the project.
  • In Minnesota, the Responsible Governmental Unit (RGU) does the review.
  • In most cases, the City of Minneapolis is the RGU for projects located within Minneapolis.
  • The law defines the:
    • Content and scope of the review
    • Process and timeline for completion
