Between 1980 and 2000 Powderhorn Park's labor force participation rate has increased steadily. Compared to the city, the proportion of people in the labor force (already working or looking for a job) in the neighborhood is slightly higher for all three decades. In 2000, 75 percent of Powderhorn Park's population over the age of 16 was in the labor force, whereas in Minneapolis 72 percent of residents over the age of 16 were in the labor force.
Historically, Powderhorn Park has had a higher unemployment rate than Minneapolis. In 2000, the neighborhood's unemployment rate dropped to 6.6 percent, which is slightly higher than the citywide unemployment rate of 5.8 percent.
