Poverty

Northrop's percentage of people below the poverty level was considerably lower than the citywide figure between 1980 and 2000. The percentage of people 65 years and older below poverty level in Northrop was also consistently lower than the citywide average during this time. The neighborhood recorded its highest level in 1990 when the figure spiked to 8 percent, but then it fell back down to 3 percent in 2000.

The poverty status for all families and the poverty status for families with children under 18 are both significantly lower for the Northrop neighborhood than the citywide average. Northrop did experience increases in both figures between 1980 and 2000.
