Between 1980 and 2000 Marcy-Holmes' labor force participation rate steadily increased. During this time, the citywide rate registered a relatively small increase. In 2000, 79 percent of Marcy-Holmes' population over the age of 16 participated in the labor force, compared to 72 percent citywide.
In 1980 and 2000, Marcy-Holmes had a lower unemployment rate than Minneapolis. In 2000, the neighborhood's unemployment rate was 4.3 percent, compared to Minneapolis' at 5.8 percent. But in 1990, Marcy-Holmes' unemployment rate was higher than the citywide rate.
