Lowry Hill East had a higher percentage of people below the poverty level than Minneapolis had in 1979. In 1989, the city's level rose above the neighborhood's and remained higher in 1999. The percentage of people aged 65 years and over under the poverty level was lower in Lowry Hill East than the city in 1979 and 1989; however, in 1999 the neighborhood percentage rose significantly and was above the citywide figure.
