Longfellow and Minneapolis continuously increased in labor force participation between 1980 and 2000. The Longfellow labor force participation rate increased from 65 percent of the total population 16 years and over to 76 percent in 2000, a faster increase than the citywide rate.
The unemployment rate was lower in Longfellow than citywide in 1980 and 1990. In 2000, it reached 6.1 percent, surpassing the city's rate of 5.8 percent.
