The labor force participation rate in Diamond Lake increased in 1990 and 2000. In 1980, the percentage of neighborhood residents in the labor force was equal to the citywide percentage. Diamond Lake's labor force participation rate has since surpassed Minneapolis', with 76 percent of neighborhood residents over the age of 16 employed or seeking work in 2000.
The unemployment rate in Diamond Lake has been historically lower than the citywide rate. Moreover, the neighborhood's rate has been steadily declining, down 2.1 percent since 1980. That decline came despite a rise in the citywide unemployment rate from 1980 to 1990.
