The percentage of people 65 and over under the poverty level in Bottineau was significantly higher than the citywide figure in 1979: 29 percent compared to 14 percent respectively. Bottineau's figure decreased substantially, falling well below the citywide level in 1989 and remaining below the citywide figure in 1999. The percentage of total people under the poverty level in Bottineau was consistently below the citywide figure between 1979 and 1999. The trend for people under the poverty level in Bottineau and citywide mirrored each other in peaking to their highest percentage in 1989.

Families below poverty level with children under 18 went from zero to 24 percent from 1980 to 1990 in Bottineau. This figure then decreased in 2000 to 19 percent compared to 17 percent for Minneapolis. The percentage of all families below poverty level also increased between 1980 and 1990 in the neighborhood, but remained below the citywide figure until 2000 when Bottineau and Minneapolis had the same figure of 12 percent.
